One can have hundreds of different sexual partners and be sick with drug dependence for many years without being infected. Sterile injecting equipment and condoms are needed. Alcohol consumption is linked to HIV acquisition and transmission. The World Health Organization is working on a draft global strategy to reduce harmful use of alcohol which has about one hundred policy possibilities including this narrow one. It even has harm reduction in it! Read it below. more »

Drug use itself does not lead to HIV acquisition or transmission. The use of nonsterile injecting equipment does. ...
