The [him] moderator thinks that the usually analytical Joshua Kurlantzick has used a bit too much poetic licence when he says: "And in recent years, the junta, which allowed UN agencies into the country to help manage problems like Burma's looming HIV crisis, essentially forced one group after the next to leave." Myanmar is, as of today, a member of the UN and did not allow UN agencies into the country to help manage HIV. The UN was there for many years before HIV. And "one group after another" includes a list of one: MSF France. more »

A paper by UN staff on coverage of HIV prevention and care interventions in Myanmar / Burma was posted two weeks ago. The paper is part of a very small 'series' that is a small output from the border health meeting in Bangkok over a year ago. This paper needs to be read by everyone concerned about HIV in Burma / Myanmar. With this level of analysis available no one outside can now say that they don't know what is going on inside. It directly challenges both the government and other stakeholders to do more on HIV in the country. more »

Here are new recommendations by Refugees International. You can't miss getting attention with a headline like this one. And truthful plain speaking by one NGO official is highly appreciated. Seven per cent of preoperative HIV tests at Sitaku are positive? Perhaps these patients had already been turned down by other hospitals.
